Empowering Kuala Lumpur Communities through the Urban Climate Resilience Program (UCRP)
In collaboration with Zurich Malaysia, Z Zurich Foundation, C40 Cities, and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Urban Climate Resilience Program (UCRP) – an initiative aimed at building sustainable, resilient communities against the impacts of climate change – has been expanded to two select local communities in Kuala Lumpur, namely PPR Beringin and Kampung Pasir.
The event saw the coming together of all collaborative parties in the commencement of this transformative project. In addition, it also served as a platform to introduce the appointed core team members from DBKL, who will lead the implementation of UCRP initiatives in the select communities, under the auspices of the Department of Health and Environment (JKAS).

Junior Cho, Country CEO/Head of Zurich Malaysia, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "Zurich Malaysia is honoured to be part of this programme, in building sustainable, resilient communities which can withstand, recover from, and thrive in the face of climate-related disasters. We will continue on our journey towards bringing impact changes in the adaptation in selected cities in Malaysia, ensuring enhanced support for those in-need. Zurich Malaysia remains unwavering in our commitment to care for what truly matters, as we work alongside the DBKL, C40 Cities, and the Z Zurich Foundation to strengthen community resilience against climate change impacts."
"As we embark on this transformative journey to enhance climate resilience for local communities, it’s important to recognise the critical role that urban systems play in shaping the wellbeing of our communities. Our collaborative efforts with partners and local authorities aim to develop practical solutions that support and protect our communities as they confront the challenges posed by climate change." said David Nash, Head of Adaptation to Climate Change, Z Zurich Foundation.
Moving forward, UCRP will actively engage with local communities at PPR Beringin and Kampung Pasir, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions and nurture climate resilience. By fostering collaboration and community participation, the UCRP seeks to build a more resilient and sustainable future for local communities in-need.
