Zurich Malaysia contributes Takaful Surplus Fund to support COVID-19 vaccination and livelihood

– Zurich Malaysia has provided a contribution to Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) in support of its COVID-19 vaccination campaign and to help alleviate hardships through livelihood programmes for vulnerable communities.

Zurich Malaysia channelled its general takaful surplus pool to MRCS to cover the deployment of the mobile vaccination initiative, which includes the setup of vehicle, ambulance, medical equipment, and manpower. This contribution supports doctors, volunteers, medical supplies, and facility costs.

The initiative aims to vaccinate the bedridden, physically disabled and migrants, while increasing the take up rate for vaccination, in order to increase protection especially among at-risk communities.

The MRCS mobile vaccination programme is part of a mobile clinic initiative under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), which brings COVID-19 vaccines nationwide to vulnerable and rural communities.

“This mobile clinic initiative is aligned with MRCS’ aim to provide care and relief assistance to at-risk and vulnerable communities. Ensuring the vulnerable are adequately protected against the virus is a humanitarian imperative. This programme really meets our MRCS objective of leaving no one behind in all our efforts,” said Her Royal Highness Dato' Sri Diraja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, MRCS National Chairman.

“In view of the current situation and understanding the dire need in the communities, we decided to contribute to MRCS’ initiative on behalf of our customers through donation from the general takaful surplus pool. We hope this can help expedite the availability of protection for more people in Malaysia. This contribution is one of the ways we reiterate our commitment to the wellbeing of Malaysians through both good and challenging times, towards creating a brighter future together,” said Zurich General Takaful chief executive officer Nazrul Hisham Abdul Hamid.

Zurich Malaysia’s contribution also goes towards providing immediate support through cash transfer to 200 families and food aid to 600 families who have lost their income due to the pandemic, benefitting more than 4,000 underprivileged individuals.

This collaboration covers several states in Peninsular Malaysia, including the Klang Valley, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang and East Malaysia.
