Philip Smith appointed CEO of Zurich Insurance Malaysia Berhad
- Zurich today announced the appointment of Philip (Phil) Smith (UK citizen) to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zurich Insurance Malaysia Berhad.
In this role, Phil will be responsible for further strengthening Zurich’s business in Malaysia and will play a key role in achieving Zurich’s goals in this important market. He will report to Mark Hartigan, CEO of Zurich’s Life Insurance business in Asia Pacific and Middle East, and succeeds Trevor Bull, who left the company earlier this year.
Phil, a UK-qualified chartered accountant, has been with Zurich and its predecessor companies for twenty years, ten of which have been in Asia Pacific. During this time he has been based in Sydney, Beijing and Hong Kong. Most recently, he was Head of Business Development and Strategy for Zurich’s Life Business in Asia Pacific and Middle East and, since February of this year, he has been acting as Interim General Manager responsible for the day to day running of Zurich’s business in Malaysia.
“Phil’s extensive experience coupled with his leadership capabilities make him the ideal person to accelerate the work we have started. He will continue to build our presence in Malaysia and drive profitable growth,” Mark Hartigan said when announcing the appointment.
